The trade market for Holliday, meanwhile, likely would be robust, especially from teams in the suddenly offense-starved American League. If the Rockies did not get the package they wanted, they could always put off a deal until the offseason, when an even greater number of teams likely would be interested.
Among the clubs that could pursue Holliday:

Cleveland. The Indians need to inject offense. They might prefer to upgrade in their infield, but their production in both outfield corners is poor.

I've said since the winter that we need atleast one more big bat for us to even think about a title. This would be very nice.

Guess I'm not the only one noticing how poor our corner production is.

Holliday would be an amazing addition.  I just wonder about the contract situation.  I don't want to give up 3 or 4 of our top prospects for a rent a player.

I agree completely, but someone like him would be worth re-signing if the Indians are willing to pay for him.  But as a rental, no.

you have to give something to get something. this is supposedly "our year," so we need to do whatever we can to improve our team right now and stop worrying about the future as much.

From what I'm reading on the internet it seems the Rockies may rather trade Holliday than Atkins.  Mainly because of money.  Holliday will yield more players as well.

I dont know what Ken was thinking when writing this article. Sure the contract situation is messy now for them and Holliday, but he is a franchise player. He is who the fans come to see these days, not Helton.

Well, O'Dowd is from the school of John Hart and saw the likes of Belle and others leave for the last nickel they could get.  If Holliday doesn't sign an extension that O'Dowd thinks is friendly to the Rockies budget, he's going to be traded.  Especially with the Rockies not contending for a title this year.

Get ready, if the Indians fall on their face and have no shot to make the playoffs come the trade deadline CC will be traded.  Not saying it will happen but if we're not contending we're going to get something for CC.  I really don't see us resigning him.

To conclude, if we're in contention, we're not going to trade for Holliday because Shapiro isn't going trade away our system to get a player that we can't sign. If we can't sign CC, we won't sign Holliday.

Looks like we're interested in Holliday and Atkins.   From MLBTradeRumors:

The Indians are "bringing up Garrett Atkins and Matt Holliday in trade talks."  Holliday just hit the DL, but there's plenty of time before the deadline.

I dont think we could afford to trade laffey anymore; especially with our offense seeming to come around.
